This week, Batman: Arkham Shadow released as an exclusive for the Meta Quest 3 family of VR devices. Developed by Camouflaj, the team behind the brilliant Marvel’s Iron Man VR that we’ve awarded 2 Game of the Year awards here, its a follow up of sorts to 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins and its spin-off Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. In it, Batman, along with allies both new and old, must stop Gotham City from spiraling into chaos due to the machinations of the Rat King.
Batman: Arkham Shadow as of this writing sits with an average score of 83 on Metacritic, and Comic Book Video Games would like to congratulate Camouflaj on the successful launch of their latest title. We wish nothing for the best for the entire studio, and hope that Arkham Shadow is an unequivocal sales success.
Unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect a review of Batman: Arkham Shadow to appear on this website anytime soon. Comic Book Video Games is a passion project first that was never built to generate revenue. It was created as a means to celebrate underappreciated licensed video games and it will remain as such for the foreseeable future.
As we outlined in our news round-up, Meta has smartly release bundles for both the Meta Quest 3 and 3S that include Batman: Arkham Shadow. Having obtained a Meta Quest 2 for the purposes of reviewing Marvel’s Iron Man VR on the Quest 2 about 2 years ago with the aid of family, it’s not a financial decision I can make to spend upwards of $450 in Canada on another piece of hardware right now.
There’s plenty of resources available to determine whether Batman: Arkham Shadow is worth picking up. Here’s one from The VR Grid featuring Victor Lucas from The Electric Playground.
