Anya Chalotra has joined the cast of Creature Commandos as Circe, the ancient sorceress best known as a Wonder Woman villain.
In a surprise confirmation on Sunday, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that Chalotra had joined the cast. Asked, “Is it true that Anya Chalotra is playing Circe in Creature Commandos?”, Gunn replied, “Yes. And there are other cool characters in the show played by other cool actors. But all of the series regulars were announced.”
Chalotra is most recently known for playing Yennefer of Vengerberg in The Witcher.
As Gunn has said on multiple occasions, actors are expected to play the same roles across all DC Universe projects, so should Circe appear elsewhere in a live-action project, Chalotra would be expected to play the role there as well. With the Paradise Lost TV project already announced, it seems like a natural spot for Chalotra to appear in the future. The story is set in the past of Themyscira, and seeing as Circe is an immortal, it would be easy to drop her into the plot.
The full cast of the series includes Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) as the main protagonist of the series, Bride of Frankenstein. She will be joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) as Eric Frankenstein, Zoe Chao (Your Place or Mine) as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot & Weasel, Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol) as Doctor Phosphorous, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
No release date other than “2024” has been announced as of yet for Creature Commandos.
