Darth Maul lives…at least in comic book form. With the release of Darth Maul: Black, White, and Red, is there a chance we could see him return to the screen?
One thing about George Lucas, he creates villains with amazing aesthetics…just to kill them off in anticlimactic ways. Just like Boba Fett escaped the Sarlacc, Maul could rise from the grave, which would be a boon for any collectors with his early appearances.
The last we saw him, he had been gutted by an older Kenobi in Star Wars: Rebels. While that may have seemed like the end, let’s face it — he’s had worse. Cut him in half. Stab him. It doesn’t matter what you do; Darth Maul is too angry to die. Don’t forget his cameo in Solo, so there have obviously been plans to revive the character at some point. Where those plans are now remains to be seen.
Oftentimes, the comics are a tease of things to come in the land of Disney. Ever since the House of Mouse bought Marvel Comics, they’ve used the publisher to accentuate the MCU. Whenever a character or story arc gets a sudden push, it’s a clue to where the movies and streaming series are headed. This could be the case for Darth Maul.
The most likely landing spot would be a future season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. After Kenobi was stalked by Darth Vader, it would be fitting for Darth Maul to follow suit. The show fits into the same timeline as Rebels, so the story would make sense. Then again, when has Disney been concerned with canon and logic? I wouldn’t put it past the corporate giant to slide Maul into the upcoming The Mandalorian movie if only for shock and awe.
