The cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts has encountered another casting issue. Just like Steven Yeun, Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri has left the project due to scheduling conflicts. Fortunately, the company has already found a replacement.
According to Deadline, Australian actress Geraldine Viswanathan will now assume Edebiri’s role.
Viswanathan is best known for her work in the TBS series Miracle Workers, the 2018 comedy Blockers, and last year’s The Beanie Bubble. She will also appear in Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls.
This is not the first time Viswanathan has been associated with Marvel. Before Iman Vellani was cast, she was heavily rumored to play Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel. Her role in Thunderbolts is currently unclear.

For those unfamiliar with the Thunderbolts, they are essentially Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad, but without the neck bombs. Instead, they are recruited by General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross.
Director Jake Schreier impressed executives and secured the job. The plot of the film is still largely unknown, except that it centers around a group of supervillains (or characters who have previously portrayed villains in the MCU). Marvel has been coordinating with certain individuals already involved in the MCU to ensure their availability for next summer when filming begins.
Unfortunately, William Hurt, who portrayed a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away in May. He has since been replaced by Harrison Ford, who will debut in Captain America: New World Order. The character was last seen in Black Widow in a weakened state, leading to speculation that he may become Red Hulk by subjecting himself to a variant of the Super Soldier Program.
In the comics, the Thunderbolts have included Baron Zemo, U.S. Agent, the Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, and Abomination, all of whom already exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, Deadpool, Luke Cage, and even Ghost Rider have been part of the team at some point.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
