Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! This week’s message remains the same: we’re actively seeking new comic reviewers and accepting applications from anyone interested. If you’re a passionate Batman fan with strong opinions, we want to hear from you! Here’s the step-by-step process for applying:
Step #1: Introduce yourself. Tell us who you are, where you’re from, and your schedule. Explain what makes you a skilled writer and if you’ve studied any literature on writing or comic art techniques. We value reviewers who pay equal attention to both artwork and storytelling. Additionally, share a personal connection or story related to The Dark Knight. We’re looking for dedicated fans, not just casual followers.
Step #2: Provide a rundown of your experience with Batman characters. The more comics you’ve read, the better. Let us know which comic book eras you’re familiar with and which ones you’re less familiar with. Share any classic graphic novels you haven’t read yet but feel you should have. Tell us about your all-time favorite Batman stories and if you’ve watched every show or played every video game.
Step #3: Review two comics. Write a minimum of 500 words for each review, one for an issue you liked and one for an issue you didn’t like. The comics should be current, published within the past year. Don’t worry if your opinion differs from ours; we welcome diverse viewpoints. Write the reviews in the style of our previous reviews, including a “Recommended If” and an “Overall” section, and end with a rating from 1 to 10.
Submit your application as a PDF or Word document to ReviewerTryouts@gmail.com. There is no immediate deadline, and we will announce when tryouts are closed through Upcoming Comics. If we’re impressed by your application, we’ll contact you for further challenges. If you pass those tests, we’ll assign you some books to review. This is a paid position with perks like free comics and opportunities to interview DC talent. However, please note that this is primarily a passion project, not a full-time job.
In this week’s Upcoming Comics, we have several exciting releases, including:
