Nevertheless, inconsistencies can be overlooked in a story about space wizards and hokey religions.
On Rocedila, Aphra discovers an ancient Jedi book written on paper, a rarity in a time when most books are cataloged on data tapes or accessed through datapads. The book is written in an unfamiliar language, similar to the ancient Jedi texts Rey encountered. It is unclear if this book is one of the ones Rey eventually takes from Ahch-To, but it piques Aphra’s curiosity.
Later, Sana Starros appears, knowing that Aphra wouldn’t actually kill herself, and they reunite with Magna Tolvin to discuss their future. While the dynamics of their relationship are unclear, it is evident that they are a team and plan to continue a life of crime, distancing themselves from larger causes such as the Empire and the Rebellion.
The comic concludes with two epilogue-style pages. The first introduces ISB Officer Mechior Votto and bounty hunter Raslin Grace, who discuss a new mission to hunt down Doctor Aphra. The second page shows Aphra and her crew causing trouble on Canto Bight, indicating that Aphra’s faked death may not have served its intended purpose. The comic ends with a note saying “the end… for now!” and a confirmation that Doctor Aphra will return.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Aphra’s future, there are indications that more stories are to come. A product listing for Star Wars: Aphra Bounty Hunter #1 was found, set to release on May 1st, 2024. However, Michael Siglain, Creative Director at Lucasfilm Publishing, dismissed it as a misprint or joke. Nevertheless, fans remain hopeful, as the listing is still up on TFAW, a reputable distributor. Only time will tell what lies ahead for Doctor Aphra.
