Dragon Ball FighterZ is finally getting its next-gen upgrade alongside rollback netcode.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is finally making its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the near future. Back in 2022, Bandai Namco announced its plans to bring the popular fighting game to the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles, along with implementing rollback netcode. Since then, updates on this major upgrade have been scarce, leaving the DBFZ community with unanswered questions. Thankfully, the silence has been broken and the release of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X is imminent.
Announced on Bandai Namco’s website today, the publisher confirmed that the next-gen upgrade for Dragon Ball FighterZ on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be available starting tomorrow, February 29. This update will be free for existing owners of the game on PS4 and Xbox One. Additionally, rollback netcode will finally be introduced to enhance the online functionality of the game.

Rollback netcode is a technique that reduces input lag and visual stuttering in online matches of fighting games. Bandai explained that unlike delay-based netcode, rollback netcode predicts inputs and executes them immediately, correcting any discrepancies later. This results in smoother and more responsive gameplay similar to offline play.
It is important to note that rollback netcode will only be available for the new versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The previous-gen versions on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch will continue to use the original delay-based netcode. Crossplay will not be available between different platforms due to the different netcode options being used.
