FF7 Rebirth might be experiencing a slower start, but there are valid reasons behind it.
Sales data for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth indicates that the second installment in the trilogy may be starting off slower compared to Final Fantasy VII Remake. Despite being a major success for Square Enix, Rebirth is currently the highest-rated game of 2024, with long-time fans expressing love for the title on social media. However, initial sales figures suggest that Rebirth may have a softer launch than Remake.
According to GamesIndustry.biz reporter Christopher Dring, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s sales in the UK are down by 30% compared to the opening sales of Final Fantasy VII Remake. It’s important to note that this data only reflects physical copies of Rebirth on PS5, and digital sales could potentially bring it closer to Remake’s numbers.
The exclusivity of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the PlayStation 5 could be a contributing factor to its slower start. With a smaller install base of around 55 million PS5 consoles globally, compared to over 100 million PS4 consoles at the time of Remake’s release, the 30% decline in sales makes sense considering the difference in available platforms.
As more information is expected to be shared by Square Enix in the coming days, there is a possibility that Rebirth will expand to Xbox and PC after its PS5 exclusivity period. This could potentially boost sales beyond those of FF VII Remake. For now, readers can check out our official review to learn more about the game.
