Late last year, Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that he was stepping away from directing the next Avengers movie to focus on Shang-Chi 2.
This came as a surprise to many because it seemed as if Shang-Chi had become one of many heroes and properties lost in the shuffle at Marvel Studios. Perhaps that was one reason why Cretton thought it was important to begin working on it…
Whatever the case, new details about the upcoming sequel have been scarce…until now.
This weekend, industry insider Daniel RPK took to his Patreon account to reveal not only when Marvel plans on beginning production on the project, but also what – and who – it will be about.

Now, according to RPK the film is slated to begin production next year! That doesn’t give us an idea of when the film will release though. Considering that projects like Captain America 4 and Blade entered production years ago, and still haven’t come out tells us that the film may not hit theaters until at least 2026. But that’s not all though.
RPK also revealed that the film will involve time travel. However, he did not make it clear if the film will use it the way that Avengers: Endgame did or Ms. Marvel. That’s still not all.
Lastly, he went on to say that besides star Simu Liu, Awkwafina will return. AND that there are currently plans for the film to feature another Marvel comic book character who knows kung-fu: Iron Fist!
While it’s unclear if it will be the same Iron Fist played by Finn Jones in the Netflix shows, or another character donning the mantle altogether, RPK did say that the character will first make its debut in the upcoming animated series Eyes of Wakanda!
This is obviously a lot info to process, and given RPK’s track record it’s all most likely true. However, we must always remind you that because none of this has been confirmed by Disney, Marvel or any of the major trades you should take it with a grain of salt.

Now, next up for Cretton is Wonder Man. That has recently resumed production in California. Created by Cretton and Andrew Guest, Wonder Man will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams / Wonder Man, alongside Ben Kingsley, who returns as Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse, Lauren Glazier, and Ed Harris. There are also rumors that Josh Gad has joined the cast.
Both Wonder Man and Shang-Chi 2 are only a handful of projects planned by Cretton at Disney, ever since he inked an overall deal with Marvel in 2022.
