Seablip has caught my attention for some time now, thanks to its Next Fest demos. Who can resist a game that combines elements of Terraria and FTL, with a pirate theme? Luckily, the game’s official early access release has been well-received with positive reviews.
Seablip is a visually stunning side-scrolling pixel art game where you take on the role of a pirate ship captain exploring an open world map filled with islands to discover and treasure to plunder. You can engage in battles with enemy ships and establish yourself as the most feared pirate on the high seas.
What sets Seablip apart is its ship management system, reminiscent of FTL. You can unlock 48 different upgrades, strengthen hulls, add magical shields or fire damage, and recruit sailors with unique attributes and skills. Managing your crew adds a layer of depth to the gameplay experience.
In addition to exploring hidden treasures and playing mini-games, Seablip’s early access version challenges players to defeat seven different bosses, with more updates and content planned for the future.
The game has received positive reviews on Steam, praising its relaxing atmosphere, rewarding progression, and diverse range of inspirations. Some players have also noted developer notes in unfinished sections, adding a personal touch to the experience.
According to the game’s description on Steam, the developers aim to provide constant updates and reach a full release next year. Seablip is currently priced at £12.70/$13.50, with a special introductory offer available.
