In a recent interview, FromSoftware president and director Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed confidence in the future of the studio’s mecha-action series Armored Core, as long as the game’s dystopian vision does not become a reality.
Since its inception in the late 1990s, the Armored Core series has captivated audiences with its themes of massive explosions, oil spillage, and anti-corporate sentiment. The latest installment, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, released in 2023 to critical acclaim and marked the studio’s second-biggest PC launch to date.
“The Armored Core series holds great importance for FromSoftware,” Miyazaki stated. “We are committed to its future and view the success of Armored Core 6 as a positive step forward.”
Despite the positive reception, Miyazaki acknowledges that there is always room for improvement, hinting at the possibility of an Armored Core 7 in the future. The game has received post-launch updates, including ranked matches and weapon buffs, but has yet to see the expansive expansions typical of FromSoftware’s other titles.
Miyazaki credits the studio’s ability to retain and empower talent for their rapid game releases, suggesting that an Armored Core 7 could be in the works alongside other projects like the Elden Ring DLC.
Looking ahead, FromSoftware’s next release is the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, set to launch on June 21. Speculation about the DLC’s content remains rife, with some theorists pointing to the 30-song soundtrack as a potential clue.
