Marvel Studios’ long-awaited Blade project has encountered another setback in its development process.
According to TheWrap, Marvel Studios has parted ways with director Yann Demange. The split was amicable, with Demange leaving the project some time ago. This follows Bassem Tariq’s departure over a year ago, making Demange the second director to exit the project.
Eric Pearson is now working on a new script for the film. Pearson, who recently wrote Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, is the latest in a line of writers that includes Michael Starburry and Nic Pizzolatto, with Pizzolatto’s contribution being cut short by last year’s writers strike. The film has faced significant challenges in its development.
Following his vocal debut in Eternals, Mahershala Ali will star in the film. The role was previously portrayed by Wesley Snipes in a trilogy from the 2000s and Sticky Fingaz in a short-lived series on Spike TV.
The film is currently scheduled for release in November 2025, but it is expected to be pushed back to 2026 once Disney updates its theatrical release schedule.
