About the Book:
The Space Colony Omicron is under attack by space pirates. Looking for research that will give them a big payday. With the plan to leave no one alive. When an unknown assailant attacks the pirates, the children of the station researcher run for their lives, almost as if they are running from a ghost.
Reviewerā€™s Notes:
Space Ghost was originally created in 1966 by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The show was intended to be campy, funny and childlike. Adamā€™s Westā€™s Batman was all the craze at the same time and Hanna-Barbera Production wanted a piece of that pie.
That said I have fond memories of watching Space Ghost as part of my cartoon regiment, even if it was in reruns. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. Reading this book brought back those thoughts and feelings. But only better. For this Space Ghost is more serious. To me Space Ghost always reminded me of Batman in Space. Here was a guy who was a good doer, had skills and tech. But then had these two child sidekicks.
Maybe that was the point. But one thingā€™s for certain. This is not your fathers Space Ghost. While all the original characters are there, and while there is a lot more back story to how Space Ghost added Jan, Jace and the monkey to his team. This Space Ghost feels a lot more like my original premise of Batman in Space. I truly enjoyed how Jan and Jace give the pirates a run for their money, all the while thinking that Space Ghost is there to hurt them just like the pirates, only to have Jan and Jace assist and defend him at the end. Making this book a very quick read and leaving me wanting more.
If book #1 is any sign of how this story is going to go, then I look forward to the weekly adventure, just like I was a little kid. This story has so much more room to grow, and I am here for the ride!
The cover is phenomenal! Adding to the fact that Space Ghost comes out of nowhere and just looks mean in the process. I can truly appreciate the colors as they pop around the exposing form of Space Ghost himself. The sheer intimidation factor alone should make anyone who is an enemy of this character on the cover soil themselves!
The interior artwork is wonderfully well done. The lines and letters are solid and easy to follow. I love how the color of the panel shifts depending on whatā€™s going on in the panel itself, as well as the subtle details of the smoke and lights and how it is also represented during the visual story. The emotions felt by the characters during this very traumatic experience are visually represented and easily conveyed and felt by the reader.
