In an interview with Edge magazine, assistant game director Robbie Stevens discussed the creation of The Final Shape and what lies ahead for Destiny 2. He explained that “all the content in Year 10 sets the stage for what comes next in Destiny 2. Some of these storylines will carry over into the future.
“However, we are moving away from linear storytelling, which we internally refer to as ‘TV-show storytelling,’ towards more standalone experiences and Episodes that are easier to dive into and enjoy. You won’t need to have extensive knowledge of previous events to appreciate the story and experience,” Stevens elaborated.
Stevens also hinted at the direction Year 11 will take, focusing on expanding the world and universe of Destiny. He emphasized the shift from linear storytelling to world-building and hinted at exciting developments to come.
Additionally, Bungie has exciting plans for Year 11, building upon the groundwork laid in Year 10. Stevens mentioned that they will revisit existing locations across Sol, concluding character arcs and setting the stage for new adventures.
Destiny 2 will introduce a new Exotic mission in the coming months, described by Bungie as one of the largest they have ever created.
