One of the surprise headlines from Hasbro this year was that there would be no 2024 Marvel Legends Haslab crowdfunding campaign. But that’s not to say collectors won’t be getting a preorder for another immense Marvel character to add to their shelves: the Hasbro Pulse exclusive Marvel Legends Dragon Man figure is now up for order! At 10” tall and over 17” wide, Dragon Man is a humongous anthropomorphic dragon boy—will you be adding him to your collection?
Fantastic Four Classics Dragon Man has been one of the holy grails for Toybiz Marvel 6” figure collectors for nearly two decades now. With a low production run and scarce distribution, that Dragon Man was immediately in high demand and expensive on the aftermarket, even in 2006. That figure sells for hundreds of dollars today, even loose.
But now, 18 years later, there are finally enough Dragon Men to go around for all the Fantastic Four fans! In lieu of a Haslab this year, Hasbro has instead opened pre-orders for this new oversized Marvel Legends Dragon Man figure, with an estimated shipping date of summer 2025.
The price-point on this action figure is $84.99, which might at a glance strike some fans dead from shock on sight. That said, given that this is a limited release 100% newly sculpted 10” tall figure with a 17.5” wingspan and a nice assemblage of accessories, that price doesn’t seem all that out of line. In fact, it feels totally okay to me, as someone accustomed to paying more for much smaller import figures like SH Figuarts and MAFEX.
If you look at the size comparison to a plain old Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) figure, it instantly is apparent that this Dragon Man is absolutely massive. This figure would be too big to release as a pack-in Build-A-Figure, and even if it had been a BAF, collectors would need to purchase close to $200 in other figures just to build it. In that light, Dragon Man’s $85 MSRP feels quite solid. The ML Dragon Man figure itself is pretty excellent, as a 100% newly made premium release ought to be. He’s got 40 points of articulation, with standouts being the poseable jaw, tongue and 10” tail. But on a huge and bulky figure like this one, I think the accessories will be more practical for changing up the toy’s look, rather than constantly re-posing him.
