Warner Bros. is currently developing a TV show based on the historical action film 300, despite it being 17 years since its release.
According to Variety, the show will be a prequel to the 2007 movie, with director and co-writer Zack Snyder in early talks to lead and executive produce. The series will be produced under his Stone Quarry banner.
300, adapted from the 1998 comic book series of the same name, made its way to North American theaters in 2007 and earned $456 million on a $60 million budget. Snyder directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon. Gerard Butler starred as Leonidas, King of Sparta, alongside Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo. The cast also included Dominic West, Vincent Regan, Michael Fassbender, Peter Mensah, Kelly Craig, and Stephen McHattie.
A sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, was released in 2014, featuring Eva Green and Headey. Despite mixed reviews, the film performed well at the box office, grossing $337 million worldwide against a $110 million budget.
In 2021, Snyder mentioned to The Playlist that he had written a third installment, titled Blood and Ashes, focusing on Alexander the Great, but Warner Bros. decided not to move forward with it. A writer has yet to be attached to the prequel TV show project.
