In the Avatar Comics, Aang consults Roku multiple times after making his promise to Zuko, that he would end Zuko if he showed any signs of becoming like his father
So when Zuko makes multiple decisions that threaten the peace of the four nations, Aang calls to Roku for advice, saying he didn’t even end Ozai, how could he possibly consider ending his friend
Roku insists that Aang must keep his promise and expresses his own regret for not ending Fire Lord Sozin even though they grew up as best friends
When war is on the verge of starting between the fire and earth nation, Aang goes to meditate and talks to Roku who once again advocates for Aang to fulfill his promise and even reveals that Zuko is his great grandson but as the Avatar one must hold the world above all else
After the conflict is peacefully resolved Aang talk to Roku one last time, thanking him for all he has taught him but claiming that this is a new kind of world and he cannot continue to rely on advice from those in the past
Aang says goodbye to Roku as he snaps off the totem with the fire nation sigil and burns it in his hand
This does permanent damage to Aang’s ability to connect spiritually with the past avatars but later on another former avatar finds a different way to contact Aang
The world is divided into four nations — the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and the Air Nomads — each represented by a natural element for which the nation is named. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the element from their nation. Only the Avatar is the master of all four elements. The ruthless Fire Nation wants to conquer the world but the only bender who has enough power, the Avatar, has disappeared … until now. His tribe soon discovers that Aang is the long-lost Avatar. Now Katara and Sokka must safeguard Aang on his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation.
