Capcom has announced that its popular action RPG series Monster Hunter has reached a milestone of over 100 million sales worldwide, with Monster Hunter World and Rise being major contributors to this success.
According to a press release from Capcom, Monster Hunter World, released in 2018, accounts for a quarter of the series’ sales with 25 million units sold by the end of March. The game has maintained its popularity over the years, consistently selling one million units annually, especially after the release of the Iceborne expansion in 2020.
On the other hand, Monster Hunter Rise, released in 2021, has reached 15 million sales, while its expansion Sunbreak has achieved eight million sales. This is a significant achievement considering Rise was launched in 2021 and Sunbreak in 2022. To celebrate Rise’s latest milestone, some adorable commemorative artwork has been released.

Reaching 100 million total sales is a remarkable feat for the Monster Hunter series, especially after starting as a cult classic fandom for over a decade before World elevated its global appeal. Capcom attributes Rise’s success to its “wider platform support,” including the well-received PC version, as well as the release of merchandise, movies, and even food items related to the series. The upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, set to release in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, is expected to further boost the series’ popularity.
While Resident Evil remains Capcom’s best-selling series with over 154 million sales, Monster Hunter is a close second and has the potential to catch up with future releases like Wilds. Monster Hunter World is currently Capcom’s best-selling single game, followed by Rise and then the remake of Resident Evil 2.
