Romance is finally coming to Warframe with the upcoming expansion, Warframe: 1999, thanks in part to the influence of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Warframe enthusiasts got a sneak peek at the upcoming major expansion, Warframe: 1999, during TennoCon, where a new trailer and gameplay demo were showcased. The expansion is set to launch across all platforms in winter of 2024. After eleven years, Warframe is finally introducing a romance system with the 1999 expansion. Players will have the opportunity to engage in romantic storylines with characters from a new syndicate called Hex, culminating in a potential New Year’s kiss. One of the romance options includes Arthur, voiced by Ben Starr.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford revealed that the idea of implementing a romance system has been on the table for a while, but the right opportunity had not presented itself until now. The success of Baldur’s Gate 3, particularly its romance system, played a significant role in inspiring the decision:
“The success of Baldur’s Gate and their romance system really encouraged us to move forward. It was like, ‘okay, people do want this fantasy.’ We had always been considering it, but Baldur’s Gate was the final push we needed. It was one of the best gaming experiences for me,” Ford shared.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has set a new standard for romance systems in games, with characters like Astarion and Shadowheart capturing the attention of players worldwide. The intricate storytelling and engaging performances in the romance arcs have garnered widespread acclaim. The impact of Baldur’s Gate 3’s success is already being felt across the gaming industry, with other developers taking note of its influence on player engagement and narrative depth.
And who could forget the infamous bear scene? Baldur’s Gate 3 has delivered some unforgettable romance moments that have left a lasting impression on players. The game’s innovative approach to romance has paved the way for new possibilities in storytelling and character development in the gaming landscape.
