Blood Hunt #3 assembles the remaining Avengers at the Sanctum Sanctorum to strategize a plan to save the world from Blade and the vampire apocalypse.
Is Blood Hunt #3 Good?
Do you like speeches and posturing? Lots and lots of posturing? Well, Jed MacKay gives you all the speeches and posturing you can handle. Hang on to your MedAlert chair lift folks because Blood Hunt #3 slams on the brakes.
When last we left our intrepid band of Marvel heroes in the face of a vampire apocalypse in Blood Hunt #2, a small subset of the Avengers engaged in a second-round fight against the Bloodcoven and won the fight, killing one of the Coven for good measure. When the cast of characters assembled at the Sanctum Sanctorum to regroup and strategize, Miles Morales suddenly turned into a vampire. Must have been one of those time-release vampire infections. Also, Blade sent out his vampire minions to capture his daughter Brielle, aka Bloodline, and find an unspecified artifact.
In Blood Hunt #3, T’Challa confirms he found the unnamed artifact in the caverns below Wakanda. Brielle finally learns her father is the mastermind of the vampire apocalypse, prompting her to run away in a tizzy. The Avengers split up to tackle the three problems with unspecified plans – Group A addresses Blade and the Bloodcoven, Group B comes up with a solution to stop the vampire hordes, and Group C focuses on dispelling the darkness.
To inspire hope, confidence, and good feelings, Sam delivers a speech broadcast to the entire world that lasts several pages, culminating in Blade dropping a dark-stoned building in the middle of NYC for an unspecified reason.
And that’s about it.

What happened to Miles Morales? Clea and the astral form of Doctor Strange cast a spell to keep Miles’s vampire side in check… somehow. Therefore, Miles’s big twist turns out to be a nothing burger.
What’s great about Blood Hunt #3? Pepe Larraz’s art is outstanding, and it’s nice to see the Avengers get their act together, even if we don’t know exactly what they’re doing.
What’s not so great about Blood Hunt #3? Why don’t we know what the Avengers are doing.? Wouldn’t it make sense for the three teams to pause for thirty seconds to let everyone know what they’re attempting in case plans go South and they need to switch up? MacKay is trying to build intrigue by obscuring information, but he’s doing it in a nonsensical way. Consequently, the Avengers come off as reckless and incompetent.
Yes, this is turning out to be a short review. That’s because this is a setup issue to move the players into place with not much else going on. In terms of plot movement and wow developments or any moment that feels like it matters, Blood Hunt #3 is sorely lacking.

Final Thoughts
Blood Hunt #3 assembles the Avengers before splitting them into teams to tackle the vampire apocalypse on multiple fronts. Larraz’s art is fantastic, but this story is almost all setup, posturing, and speeches that fail to build hype for whatever comes next.
