Daredevil #12, by Marvel Comics on 8/7/24, pits the Daredevil(s) against Wilson Fisk while the longtime villain is possessed by Matt Murdock’s deadly sin of Greed. It’s not going to be an easy fight.
Is Daredevil #12 Good?
Hachi machi. This must be the week for Marvel to put out all the titles that tread water. Daredevil #12 finally gets on track to put down the latest Deadly Sin plaguing Matt Murdock’s resurrection (an event we still have no answer for), but the issue is a little more than a single fight with a B-plot that never finishes. If the goal was to stretch out arcs for as long as possible with little to show for it, Marvel is succeeding.
When last we left the Man Without Fear in Daredevil #11, one of the boys at Father Matt’s home found out he was Daredevil and ran away. Matt enlisted Elektra to help him find the boy, but their search was interrupted when they crossed paths with Kingpin, infected by the next Deadly Sin: Greed.
In Daredevil #12, Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, fights the demon-possessed Kingpin on a rooftop. During previous battles, Matt was led to say just the right words to say an exorcism prayer that freed his opponent. This time, the usual prayers aren’t working, and Kingpin’s already-brutal strength is amped up by demon power to make him nearly invincible.Meanwhile, Jason runs home to St. Nick’s, pursued by another devil or demon.
The issue ends with Matt figuring out the only way to beat Greed is through his own supplication and humility.
Yes, that really is all there is.
What’s great about Daredevil #12? Aaron Kuder’s art remains the highlight for imagining unique visuals to portray the personifications of the Seven Deadly Sins. Here, Kuder uses groping hands and all-consuming fire to present Greed as a power that constantly wants, takes, and consumes. You could argue that a hungry fire fits better with Gluttony, but it works well enough.
What’s not great about Daredevil #12? Saladin Ahmed’s script stumbles on two fronts.
First, the arc has progressed well past the repetitive line. Daredevil confronts a friend or enemy possessed by a deadly sin. They fight. Daredevil takes way too long to realize he can’t punch a demon away, so he resorts to prayer to win. The end. This entire series could be called Daredevil: Rinse & Repeat.
Second, Ahmed takes the extra step of including a B plot about Jason running away from home, but Jason’s part in the story barely gets any page space before the issue ends on a cliffhanger. Ahmed either doesn’t have enough story to keep the B-plot prevalent, or he miscalculated his plot pacing. Either way, this issue is a miss.

Final Thoughts
Daredevil #12 continues the rinse & repeat arc of Daredevil facing off against a friend or foe possessed by one of the Seven Deadly Sins. All props go to Aaron Kuder’s imaginative art, and in fairness, the fight is well done, but this arc has become tediously repetitive.
