Diablo 4 season 5 is set to take players back to hell, as detailed in the extensive patch notes for the upcoming season’s public test realm (PTR).
While the full details of Diablo 4 season 5 have not been revealed yet, the Campfire Chat and accompanying patch notes have highlighted many potential significant changes. Let’s take a look at some of the key highlights.
The main attractions of the update include a new questline where “enemies are cut-down, alliances shift, and unlikely friends emerge from the shadows,” and a new roguelite endgame activity. This questline follows the events of the main quest and will be available in the seasonal and Eternal realms. It will remain active on the Eternal realm even after season 5 ends. To start this questline, players should visit Hawezar in World Tier 3 to investigate a mysterious disturbance.
Completing this questline unlocks the Infernal Hordes, a new endgame activity similar to Nightmare Dungeons but set in Hell. Players will face “seemingly endless” and increasingly difficult 90-second waves of Hellspawn while collecting Burning Aether to unlock new gear, provided they survive.
Players can access Infernal Hordes using a Compass that grants entry to Hell, similar to the Sigils used for Nightmare Dungeons. The Compass has eight tiers that scale in difficulty and World Tier. Upgrading Compasses is possible using Abyssal Scrolls.
Surviving all waves of the Infernal Hordes leads to a showdown with the Fell Council, a group of former good guys from Diablo 2 who have turned bad. Players will fight a randomized selection of three members with unique abilities. Upon victory, players can spend Burning Aether on one of four Spoils of Hell: Equipment, Material, Gold, and Greater Equipment, which guarantees an item with a Greater Affix.
Additionally, the PTR for season 5 introduces 50 new Legendaries and Uniques, balancing changes for all classes, and the ability to re-summon bosses without resetting the dungeon. After defeating a boss, players can use the summoning Altar to replay the boss by spending more resources.
The Diablo 4 season 5 PTR is scheduled to run from June 25 to July 2. Blizzard will gather feedback from the community during this time and make any necessary adjustments before the full launch of season 5.
Diablo Immortal’s success has given the Diablo 4 developers confidence to introduce a new class called Spiritborn that breaks away from classic D&D archetypes.
