Capcom has not forgotten the anniversary of the game, which could mean good news for a potential new game.
Originally released in Japan on July 1st, 1999 for the original PlayStation, Dino Crisis made a lasting impact. Although it took a few more months to reach North America, the game left a significant impression. Capcom’s recent post on X/Twitter celebrating the game’s 25th anniversary has sparked excitement among fans, with many expressing their hopes for the future of the series. The celebration has led to speculation that a new game or remake could be in the works, especially considering the long hiatus since the last Dino Crisis release over two decades ago!
Capcom is now well aware of the demand for a new Dino Crisis installment. Earlier this year, the Capcom Super Elections included a question asking fans which series they would like to see receive a sequel or new game. The results, released last month, revealed that Dino Crisis received the most votes with 80,769, surpassing the runner-up by over 17,000 votes. While this does not guarantee a revival of the series, it indicates the strong desire among fans for its return.
Dino Crisis can be described as a blend of Resident Evil and Jurassic Park, with the first game in the series directed and produced by Shinji Mikami, known for his work on the original Resident Evil and its 2002 remake. Mikami later founded Tango Gameworks before departing shortly before its closure by Xbox. A remake of Dino Crisis directed by Mikami, following the style of the recent Resident Evil remakes, could help revive the series and bring it back to its former glory.
While fans eagerly await news from Capcom, there are currently no modern platforms where Dino Crisis can be played. Those looking to commemorate the anniversary will need an original copy of the game for PS1 or Sega Dreamcast. Alternatively, fans can explore Dinobreak, a spiritual successor released last year.
