Bucky – Squirrel Squeak Tutor will no longer terrorize Disney Lorcana players.
Disney Lorcana has announced a change to a card that has been causing issues in competitive play recently. Ravensburger NA has announced an adjustment to Bucky – Squirrel Squeak Tutor, marking the first errata for the popular card game. The change increases Bucky’s cost to 3, removes the Ward keyword, and modifies the discard ability to only activate with Shift to play a Floodborn card. This update will be effective with the release of Shimmering Skies on August 9th.
Although Bucky – Squirrel Squeak Tutor was not widely used in earlier sets, Ursula’s Return enabled the ability to discard multiple cards from opponents’ hands early in the game, with Bucky playing a key role in the current combo. Ravensburger explained that the nerf was necessary as Bucky was creating a negative playing experience and the Ward keyword was limiting players’ options. The change aims to promote a more positive gaming environment and is in the players’ best interest.
The Disney Lorcana TCG Global Organized Play Team issued an apology for the oversight with the card and requested players to assist those who may not be aware of the change. They are also working on updating the app with the new card rules as soon as possible.
Fan reactions to the errata varied, with some suggesting a ban list approach would have been easier to follow, while others supported the decision to address the dominant meta deck that Bucky was a part of. It seems there was no clear counter to the card in future sets, prompting the need for the adjustment.
