Get ready to face off against Mohg.
Despite being one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2024, it appears that the majority of Elden Ring players will not be able to access the game’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC upon its launch next week. Earlier this year, when the launch date for Shadow of the Erdtree was announced, developer FromSoftware provided players with the necessary steps to access the expansion once it was released. However, despite ample time to prepare, it seems that most players will not be able to play the DLC immediately.
Recent findings reveal that a large number of Elden Ring players have yet to defeat the boss Mohg, Lord of Blood. While Mohg is an optional boss in Elden Ring, defeating him at Mohgwyn Palace is a prerequisite to accessing the new content in Shadow of the Erdtree. Based on achievement and trophy data for Elden Ring, it is evident that the majority of players have not yet conquered this formidable boss.
On Steam, only around 38% of Elden Ring players have the achievement associated with defeating Mohg. This percentage drops to about 35% on PlayStation and a mere 18% on Xbox. Consequently, it is clear that a significant portion of Elden Ring players who have been playing the game for the past two years will not be able to partake in the DLC unless they defeat Mohg soon.
Bandai Namco may be concerned about the potential impact on sales of the Elden Ring DLC if a large number of players are unable to access it. In fact, Bandai Namco has been encouraging players on social media to make a concerted effort to defeat Mohg before the release of Shadow of the Erdtree. Whether or not the rate of Mohg defeats will increase in the coming days remains to be seen, but if you are eager to play the DLC as soon as it launches, you will need to put in some work beforehand.
The release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is scheduled for June 21st next week. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
