Warren Spector still has a desire to create Epic Mickey 3, although he considers it currently “impossible.”
After the announcement of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Warren Spector, the series director, has shown interest in developing a third installment in the franchise. The original Epic Mickey was released in 2010, followed by a sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, in 2012. The intention was for the sequel to pave the way for a third game, but the closure of developer Junction Point Studios in 2013 put an end to those plans. Despite the setbacks from over a decade ago, Spector still has ideas for Epic Mickey 3 and expressed his desire to create the game, even though he believes it may not be feasible at the moment.
During a discussion on LinkedIn, Spector shared his excitement for Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and commended the work done by Purple Lamp Studios on the remake. He also expressed pride in the work he and his team at Junction Point did on the original Epic Mickey almost fifteen years ago. When asked about his interest in creating Epic Mickey 3 if given the chance, Spector confirmed his enthusiasm but mentioned that his current role at OtherSide Entertainment may prevent him from pursuing such a project.
\”I’d love to do Epic Mickey 3 but I have a day job that would make that impossible,\” Spector stated in response to the idea of a new installment. \”I actually have a high-level idea for what I’d do in a tri-quel. Don’t worry, what I’m working on is pretty darn cool, and OtherSide is looking to hire for that project and another one we’re working on.\”
With the announcement of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, some longtime fans of the series are hopeful that this remake serves as a way for Disney to measure interest and see if there is a demand for Epic Mickey 3. The success of Epic Mickey: Rebrushed upon its release later this year will likely play a significant role in the decision to develop a third game. The specific release date for the remake is still unknown, but it is set to launch in summer 2024 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
