Guilty Gear is set to debut its first anime series, and the popular fighting game franchise has unveiled its initial trailer.
Video games and anime are a great combination. Whether it’s adapting anime franchises like Nier: Automata, Persona, Castlevania, or Street Fighter into animated series or creating video games based on anime series such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen, the crossover usually works well. Guilty Gear, as a fighting game series, seems like a natural fit for an anime adaptation with its character designs, animation, and storylines. Fortunately, the franchise has announced the upcoming anime called Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers and has released a new trailer to showcase it.Ā
The story of Guilty Gear revolves around “Gears,” which are magical creatures in a post-apocalyptic world. Like other fighting games, the series is known for its diverse and vibrant characters and fast-paced action that appeals to players. In the past, fighting game series like Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Darkstalkers, Fatal Fury, and others have successfully made their mark in the world of anime, so Guilty Gear is in good company.Ā
Guilty Gear’s First Anime Trailer
Accompanying the new trailer for Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, Arc System Works and Sanzigen Studios have confirmed that the anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere next year. The upcoming anime will be based on the latest game in the series, Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, which has been a prime example of a fighting game merging with anime elements.Ā
Earlier this year, Arc System Works, the game developer behind Guilty Gear, released a statement regarding the franchise’s debut anime series, “Sanzigen Studios, known for producing the music video “Find Your One Way” for game protagonist Sol Badguy in GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-, will be returning to produce the anime series. Shigeru Morikawa, renowned for “Argonavis the Movie: Axia,” will direct the series. Other notable individuals involved in the project include GUILTY GEAR writer Norimitsu KaihŨ for series composition and Seiji Mizushima, known for Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Fullmetal Alchemist, as an associate producer.”
