According to a recent report, there are discussions within Xbox about the possibility of bringing Halo to the PS5. Additionally, 343 Industries is said to be working on a remaster of the original Halo game.
The information comes from Tom Warren of The Verge, who suggests that Xbox is contemplating making its flagship console exclusive available on its main competitor’s platform. This move follows the release of Sea of Thieves on the PS5 earlier this year, and reports indicate that other exclusives like Starfield and Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game may also be ported to PlayStation. Halo has long been synonymous with Xbox, and its potential departure from console exclusivity could have significant implications for Microsoft’s gaming strategy as a whole.
There is a great deal of speculation surrounding Xbox’s future plans, making it difficult to predict the company’s direction. With major acquisitions, layoffs, and studio closures, along with conflicting statements on platform exclusivity from top executives, the future of the Xbox brand in the next 5-10 years remains uncertain.
Warren also mentions that Xbox is internally discussing a remaster of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, the game that launched the series in 2001. The remaster is reportedly being considered for release on “rival consoles.”
While the remaster is still in its early stages of development and unlikely to be announced at the upcoming Summer Game Fest showcase, the potential Halo release on PS5 is also not expected to be confirmed at that event in 2024.
One possible reveal at the event, however, could be the rumored Xbox handheld console.
