The word on the internet is that Henry Cavill has signed a deal with Disney/Marvel Studios. While nothing is official just yet, one possible role has collectors and investors stockpiling these issues.
MCU fans have been waiting for this moment. Ever since the DCEU and the Snyder-Verse came to its close, Marvel diehards have been clamoring for Cavill. After a long wait, it would seem that is in the works. Neither Kevin Feige nor anyone from Cavill’s camp have confirmed the news, but there are numerous reports that the former Superman actor is joining the MCU.
As long as there has been Cavill gossip, there have been fancastings. The most prominent theory has centered on the actor portraying Captain Britain, but more recent reports suggest he will join the X-Men as Cyclops. While he would fit either of those roles, there is online chatter that he will actually debut as the live-action Beyonder.
No doubt, the British actor has the look of The Beyonder as the character was drawn in Secret Wars II. That is the most likely reason for the rumor, and Cavill would be an excellent choice. That is enough to send collectors on a hunt for these two Beyonder keys.
SECRET WARS #1
For those in the market for key issues, the first order of business is to get your hands on The Beyonder’s debut in 1984’s Secret Wars #1. Of course, we didn’t actually see his physical form. Instead, the character appeared as a ball of light with a voice.
This has been a popular collectible since Feige revealed Avengers: Secret Wars will end the MCU’s Phase Six. To add to the intrigue, Laurence Fishburne voiced The Beyonder for the animated Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Toss Cavill’s name into the mix, and collectors have even more incentive to track down this comic. At the moment, the graded 9.8 is averaging around $200. Don’t forget there is a more rare second print. Although the 9.8 has sold for as much as $1,600 since 2022, the last sale was for $450 in March 2023.
SECRET WARS II #3
Technically, Secret Wars #1 is your Beyonder first appearance, but don’t ignore the importance of Secret Wars II #1 and #3. Instead of a talking ball of light, readers finally saw the character in human form in these issues. After he made a cameo in SW II #1, he was featured on his first cover in SW II #3. Traditionally, collectors and investors put a high priority on those covers, which has made this a hot issue to own.
Looking for copies to add to your collections? Graded at a 9.8, SW II #1 has been near the $70 mark as of late. Meanwhile, SW II #3 at the same grade sells anywhere from $80-$100.
THE GREAT CAVILL DEBATE
While many are treating the Cavill rumors as fact, it’s still not official, which means it’s just that: a rumor. It’s not like we haven’t heard similar gossip before. Just last year, the scuttlebutt was that he would be announced as Doctor Doom for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, and we see how that panned out. Until Feige confirms things, don’t get too caught up in the excitement.
