The much-anticipated sequel to Hyper Light Drifter finally has a new estimated launch date.
After much anticipation, Hyper Light Breaker, the sequel to 2016’s Hyper Light Drifter, now has a launch window. Two years ago, developer Heart Machine announced the development of Hyper Light Breaker, exciting many fans. Initially targeting an early 2023 release via early access, multiple delays pushed the launch beyond 2023. However, Heart Machine has broken its silence and shared new information about the early access release of the sequel.
As reported by IGN, Heart Machine revealed that Hyper Light Breaker will be available in early access on PC in the summer of 2024. While a specific date within this timeframe has not been disclosed, the early access phase is expected to last about a year, during which Heart Machine will gather player feedback and make necessary improvements. Once this phase concludes, the game will transition to its 1.0 version with additional content.
Heart Machine explained its decision to enter early access, stating, “We are essentially inventing and defining this subgenre of ‘open world rogue-lite,’ and feel strongly that openness and responsiveness to player feedback will be critical to this ambitious process.” The studio emphasized the importance of community involvement in shaping the game and ensuring its success.
Currently, there are no plans for Hyper Light Breaker to release on consoles. Given the focus on PC for the early access phase, console releases may come later. Heart Machine has a track record of releasing games on various platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, alongside PC releases of Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash.
