DC Comics has a rich library of characters and stories that excite fans about the future. While iconic characters like The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Batman are eagerly anticipated, there are also lesser-known heroes in DC’s universe deserving of the spotlight. Gunn’s experience in adapting obscure characters is a positive sign for DC’s cinematic future.
Personally, DC holds a special place in my heart with new creative teams leading projects in film and television. I’m more optimistic than ever about what the brand can achieve. Here are six pitches that I think will captivate audiences and make them fall in love with the DC Universe:
Green Arrow and Black Canary (Film)
The Justice League handles large threats, but who looks out for the common people? Green Arrow and Black Canary, two crime fighters in costumes, protect the everyday citizens of the DCU and find love along the way. Their complex characters and compelling relationship make them one of the best power couples in comics.

Green Arrow, or Oliver Queen, fights for the innocent with his leftist views, often clashing with his team but remaining a lovable hero. Black Canary, with martial arts skills and a powerful sonic scream, is a talented singer in Gotham City by day. Their dynamic would make for an exciting action adventure rom-com, showing a different side to heroism than the Justice League’s usual battles.
The Question (Series)
Gunn’s Superman story will explore a good man in a challenging world. The Question, a character suited for dangerous situations, delves into crime-ridden underworlds where the Justice League may not venture. Victor Sage, the Question, is a captivating character that audiences could connect with.
The Question’s portrayal varies, from ultra-violent vigilante to philosophical zen master. The paranoid conspiracy theorist version in Justice League Unlimited is a favorite, making his investigation of murders a compelling TV show idea. Sage’s character and his world lend themselves well to an HBO detective drama, adding depth to Gunn’s projects.
Lobo (Film)
Lobo, a character DC has tried to bring to the screen for years, could finally have a chance with Gunn. Unlike traditional superhero stories, Lobo offers a unique and entertaining experience for audiences. As an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, Lobo’s adventures in the DC Universe are wild and visually striking.

A Lobo film could be a bold, action-packed comedy different from DC’s usual stories. Lobo’s character, with his unique traits and adventures, promises an entertaining experience for viewers. Combining the ferocity of Mad Max with the humor of Deadpool, a Lobo film would be a refreshing addition to DC’s cinematic universe.
Kyle Rayner and the Omega Men (Film)
Tom King’s reimagining of the Omega Men offers outstanding science fiction material, especially with Green Lantern Kyle Rayner at the center. A war between a galactic empire and the outlaws known as the Omega Men sets the stage for a compelling story of freedom and survival.
Like Gunn’s work with Guardians of the Galaxy, Omega Men could transform lesser-known heroes into mainstream favorites. The space opera tackles heavy themes like totalitarianism and exploitation, offering a meaningful yet entertaining story. Gunn’s touch could bring depth and fantasy to this project.
Martian Manhunter (Film/Series)
