We now have our first glimpse at The Last of Us season 2 featuring Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.
During their Upfronts 2024 presentation, the Max Twitter account shared two images giving us a sneak peek at the upcoming second season of HBO’s popular video game adaptation. In one photo, Pascal looks grizzled and stern, while the second image shows Ellie holding a large gun. It seems like this could be their emotional barn dance confrontation – fans of the game will know which scene we’re referring to…
The tweet also confirmed that the season is currently in production and is set to premiere on the streaming service Max next year. Check out the tweet below:

Filming for the new season began earlier this year and will introduce several new actors to the cast. Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, Kaitlyn Denver will play Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, and Spencer Lord as Owen.
If the second season follows the same path as the first, it is likely to closely follow the storyline of The Last of Us Part 2 video game. Without giving away spoilers, viewers should be prepared for a dark and emotional narrative.
However, showrunner Craig Mazin mentioned in an interview with GQ that not all of Part 2 of the game will be covered in season 2, stating there is “no way” it will be fully adapted. Neil Druckmann, the game’s co-creator, hinted that there will be “more than one season” to tell the story, although he did not specify how many seasons to expect.
The release window for The Last of Us season 2 is set for 2025. To discover more, explore our list of the top new TV shows coming in 2024 and beyond.
