Marvel fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble for Avengers: Doomsday.
While production on the next Marvel cinematic event is currently underway in London, the studio has pushed the release date of Doomsday back from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026.
In lieu of the Marvel film, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

Additionally, Avengers: Secret Wars, which will wrap up the Doomsday storyline, has been delayed from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
Why the Delay Makes Sense
While Marvel has not announced the reasons behind the release calendar shakeup, the prevailing notion is that the studio wants to take advantage of the holiday season.
Additionally, Marvel will now have more time to polish Doomsday before the film hits theaters. With both Disney CEO Bob Iger and Kevin Feige preaching the importance of quality over quantity, giving Doomsday more time to bake is a good thing.
What About ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
The big question now is what the delay means for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The prevailing notion was that the film would be set between the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Infinity War.

At this time, however, Brand New Day is still set for a July 31, 2026, release.
With the Doomsday delay, Marvel will likely want to release a film between this year’s Fantastic Four and the next Avengers adventure. Whether that movie is Brand New Day, the long-lingering Blade, or perhaps Doctor Strange 3, however, remains to be seen.
