As one of the original X-Men, Warren Worthington III, also known as Angel, has been noticeably absent in the world of toys compared to his fellow team members Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Iceman. The last 6″ Marvel Legends figure of the classic Angel was released back in 2005 by Toybiz, leaving an entire generation without the opportunity to purchase an Angel figure. However, Hasbro has recognized this gap and is now offering the first updated Marvel Legends Angel figure in almost two decades. You can now pre-order this figure on EE, Amazon, and other platforms.
Angel is often considered the least popular among the original X-Men, and one of the reasons for this is the difficulty in accurately producing his wings in merchandise. The Archangel persona of Warren, with his metal wings, tends to be more popular and easier to design and produce. As a result, companies often choose to release Archangel figures instead of Angel figures. Hasbro previously released a deluxe Marvel Legends Archangel figure, which was well-received despite its higher price tag due to the wings. Now, Hasbro is giving Angel his own deluxe boxed treatment.
The 2024 Marvel Legends Angel figure features the pin-free Vulcan body, introduced in mid-2023, along with all-new wings. The wings have three points of articulation, allowing them to be folded down or fully expanded, giving them a massive wingspan. The feathers have finely sculpted details and look impressive. Additionally, the figure includes interchangeable neutral and smiling heads, as well as interchangeable fists and open hands. While some may find the smiling head to be a bit odd, it is an extra option and not a major concern. Perhaps an angrier or more battle-ready head would have been a nice addition.
This Marvel Legends Angel figure showcases his red and white costume, but it is likely we will see a blue and white repaint in the future. The popularity of each costume seems to be split evenly among fans, and personally, I prefer the red costume.
You can now pre-order the X-Men Legends Angel figure, with expected shipping later this winter. Marvel collectors, what are your thoughts on this action figure of the X-Men’s resident cherub?
