This week, we’ve got more intel to share about Avengers: Doomsday and what comes next in the MCU.
So, you’ll definitely want to read the latest edition of MarvelBlog News.
Captain Carter Confirmed

I mentioned in a recent update that Hayley Atwell appeared likely to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Simultaneously, I hinted that her deal may extend to Avengers: Secret Wars.

Now, I can confirm both appearances thanks to a very strange source.
The Hollywood Reporter posted its annual list of the top Hollywood lawyers. Here’s a quote about one of them:

“He also did the deal for client…Hayley Atwell to star in Marvel’s Avengers 5 and 6.”
I’ve trimmed the entire quote to focus on Atwell, but that’s as much confirmation as anybody can have these days.

Similarly, Tom Hiddleston performed an interview wherein he acknowledged that Loki will return as well.
We already knew that from the six-hour live video stream. Still, Hiddleston’s statement indicates he’s entirely onboard.

Then, we have the speculative stuff such as the fact that on-set videos, of which there are several, seem to give away some stuff.
For example, Wongers, Benedict Wong, appears in some shots, as does Cyclops actor James Marsden.

That’s a big come-up for Marsden, who was most recently seen playing himself on an obscure, hilarious reality show.
If you haven’t watched Jury Duty, I won’t say anything else other than it may be Marsden’s best work ever.

The rumors don’t stop there, either. Tessa Thompson aka Valkyrie has been spotted in town.
I haven’t seen any pictures of her on set yet, and it’s possible that she’s just hanging out in London for something else.

Most likely, Thompson is back as Valkyrie since she’s now in charge of New Asgard.
Since she factored into elements of recent MCU films, I fully expect her back. So, I don’t think this is a coincidence.

As with Hayley Atwell, we won’t know for sure until someone confirms, though.

Now that production has begun, other MCU stars are feeling more comfortable about speaking on the record.
Before now, everyone seemed nervous that they’d pull a Tom Holland and accidentally ruin a plot point.

Thus, we’re witnessing a tidal wave of relieved actors finally spilling the beans on everything they know.
One of them is Chris Pratt aka Star-Lord, who notably didn’t receive a mention during the livestream video.

Fans naturally wondered whether the (former?) leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy would appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Pratt didn’t tip his hand per se, but he confirmed that we haven’t seen the last of him as Star-Lord.

The closing sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 promised the character’s return. Still, it’s nice to hear it from the source.
Speaking of which, Marvel leader Kevin Feige has also loosened his lips recently.
USA Today
While Feige is seemingly under a lot of pressure after the box office disappointment of Captain America: Brave New World, he’s showing no signs of stress.
If anything, Feige has seemed as loose as I’ve seen him since the pandemic’s start.

That’s reason enough to feel good about the scripts for Doomsday and Secret Wars right there.
However, Feige himself revealed that the plot focuses on four superhero teams fighting together against Doctor Doom.

Those groups are the (original) X-Men, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers (duh).
Also, the Wakandans will participate in the battle against Doom as well. So, it’s gonna be like five – or maybe 50 – on one.

Feige also casually mentioned that he’s meeting about X-Men movie ideas this week.
I presume that’s what’s next in the MCU after Secret Wars.
Marvel Miscellany

I was on vacation for a week and expected to return to all sorts of Marvel news. Frankly, that didn’t really happen.
Currently, the biggest non-Avengers story is that Daredevil: Born Again’s season ends on Tuesday.
Image: Marvel
The cast is already filming season two, which is why we know several characters, including two major villains, will survive.
They’ve got plot armor through the season one finale, which isn’t a surprise about Wilson Fisk.
Image: Marvel
The other current villain…well, maybe you didn’t expect that one, but he’s on set for season two as we speak.
Also, Mystic Pizza actress Lili Taylor will join the cast in season two as a political opponent of Fisk. So, she’ll probably die.

Circling back to Captain America: Brave New World, the film debuts on digital this Tuesday, April 15th.
Disney+ subscribers can watch the film as of May 13th, which is *checks notes* one month from today. It won’t be long now.
Image: Marvel
Of course, you may not be that excited about Brave New World based on its hype.
Well, I’ve got good news on this front. While Marvel wasn’t able to save that film, it apparently did salvage Thunderbolts*.

Two different sources are claiming that Marvel’s next movie is absolutely spectacular.
You can watch critic John Campea rave about it in this video:
He is NOT the only one doing so. Apparently, the early screenings succeeded beyond Marvel’s wildest dreams.
Image: Marvel Studios
So, I guess both projects were in turmoil in 2023, and it’s impressive that Marvel turned one into a phenomenal film.
As for Brave New World, people who saw the initial screenings indicate it’s better now than it was then. Take that as you will.
