Three new games have been added to the Game Boy Nintendo Switch Online library.
Nintendo has unveiled the games offered to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for May, commemorating the Game Boy system’s history with three iconic titles that debuted alongside the system in 1989. This announcement coincides with Game Boy’s 35th anniversary, as the console was first released in Japan in April 1989, followed by the U.S. in July and Europe in September 1990.
“In honor of the Game Boy™ system’s 35th anniversary, we are revisiting the debut year! The Game Boy was launched in 1989 and introduced classic titles like Baseball, Alleyway™, and the first Super Mario game, Super Mario Land™. Today, Nintendo Switch Online members can enjoy playing all three original launch titles as the newest additions to the Game Boy – Nintendo Switch Online library. Perfect timing for the system’s 35th anniversary celebration!”

Below are descriptions of each of the retro games that are now available in the Game Boy Nintendo Switch Online library:
Alleyway – Destroy blocks with a bouncing energy ball and aim for a high score! Control Mario as you guide your spaceship at the Alleyway’s entrance, breaking the space grids by deflecting the energy ball at them. Keep your ship in motion and the ball in play until all blocks are cleared to complete the stage. As you advance through each level, you will encounter alternating stages, bonus rounds, and more challenges. Speed and quick reflexes will be your key assets as you strive to beat the top score. Take charge in the Alleyway.Baseball – Step up to the plate in this classic 1989 Game Boy game. As the pitching team, throw a series of fastballs while adjusting curve and speed, making sure not to exhaust your pitcher. If the batter makes contact, your outfield or infield can provide support. Strike out the opposing team to switch to offense. As the batting team, position your batter on home plate and time their swing at the incoming ball. Aim to safely reach the next base or score a home run. Plan your team’s actions strategically to lead them to victory. Let the game begin!Super Mario Land – Experience Mario’s first adventure on the Game Boy! Encounter obstacles and enemies in the picturesque realms of Sarasaland, where you will traverse ancient ruins, navigate turbulent waters, and tackle various challenges. As Mario, run, jump, and bounce your way through his quest to rescue Princess Daisy (making her first appearance!) from a mysterious alien and restore peace to the land. Discover unique gameplay elements, such as the Superball Mario powerup and levels where Mario pilots an airplane and submarine.
