The classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is getting a makeover with the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid Delta this year. The game will feature the original voice cast, with new lines added using previously unused clips.
Producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed in the latest episode of Metal Gear – Production Hotline that the game’s story and voice acting will remain the same for both the Japanese and English versions. There will be no recasting done by the Konami team.
The only changes will be minor adjustments in lines where characters give advice on gameplay, especially regarding the controls. The remake includes a new control scheme and color filters, along with the original “Legacy” controls, making it compatible with non-PS2 consoles.
Okamura explained that new versions of lines had to be recorded for some advice lines that didn’t match up with the new controls. In cases where original cast members were unavailable, their existing recordings were used with permission to create the new lines.
Host Tsukika Momoyama emphasized that the story will remain unchanged, but there will be some differences in the advice lines to help players with the controls.
Additionally, it was revealed in the episode that series creator Hideo Kojima and the original staff will be credited in the new version. One producer expressed a desire for Kojima to return to the series.
The episode also shared some “honest opinions” from fans about the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, with one fan quoted as saying, “Metal Gear is dead, and you killed it.”
