Reports suggest that Netflix may be filming seasons 2 and 3 of One Piece back to back.
The live-action adaptation of the popular anime made its debut on Netflix last year and set a record for the streaming platform. Season 2 is highly anticipated, and according to one of the actors, filming for season 3 will begin immediately after season 2.
“Hopefully there’s a flashback scene with Patty. We’ll see if they flashback to it, because they’re filming two seasons – season two and three – back to back starting soon,” shared Patty actor Brashaad Mayweather in an interview with Bruce Crossey (H/T ComicBook.com). “So, we’ll see what happens.”
While One Piece was renewed for another season shortly after the first one premiered, there has been no official confirmation of a third season yet. Therefore, take this latest news with caution.
Season 2 of One Piece does not have a confirmed release date, but it is rumored to be in 2025. Although unconfirmed, this seems like a plausible timeline for its release.
“Without revealing too much about new characters, I can say that a major theme in season 2 is the challenge of leadership,” co-showrunner Matt Owens commented. “Luffy now has his crew and they are embarking on the Grand Line. There are many challenges that come with this responsibility, and this theme connects with other stories and characters that I won’t spoil yet. Leadership and challenges are central themes in season 2.”
