It’s that time of year once again where there’s more games and media coming out than there’s hours in the day to engage with them. In case you missed these news items for one reason or another, here’s some recent developments in the comic book video game space.
TMNT: SPLINTERED FATE COMES TO PC NEXT MONTH
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, the terrific rouguelike that found its way to Nintendo Switch this past summer, has a confirmed release date for PC. On November 6th, users on both Steam and the Epic Game Store can play the TMNT game that we raved about in our review of the Switch port. If you don’t want to take our word for it, there’s currently a demo on Steam you can try for yourself.

PC users will also be able to join in on the fun with players from both Apple Arcade and the Nintendo Switch ecosystems in their quest to rescue Master Splinter.
LIMITED RUN GAMES SERVES UP ANOTHER HELPING OF TMNT: SHREDDER’S REVENGE
The terrific throwback beat ’em up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the game that just keeps giving. What was already an excellent package got even more additional content with the Dimensions Shellshock update that came last year. Just a few weeks ago, developed Tribute Games surprised everyone when they seemingly out of nowhere unveiled more reasons to go back to Shredder’s Revenge.
A free update brought in remixed music tracks from various artists, and another inexpensive paid one, dubbed Radical Reptiles, expanded the roster with 2 new characters: Mona Lisa and Mondo Gecko.
Limited Run Games produced physical editions for Shredder’s Revenge when it launched in 2022 and went on to manufacture an updated release with the Dimension Shellshock content on both disc and cart. Now a third edition, the “Ultimate Edition”, is up for pre-order on Limited Run Games’ website. The standard release, available only for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, comes with everything on your medium of choice while a pricier collectors edition has the game, 4 Playmates action figures, a 3 CD soundtrack, a lithograph set and comes packaged in a gatefold box.
If you’re hesitant to pick up a 3rd print of Shredder’s Revenge for fear of another coming out, publisher Dotemu has confirmed that development has ceased on the game. For collectors of physical media, the Ultimate Edition is a tough sell if you’ve bought the game once or twice already, but this is indeed the last time the game should need another print.

BATMAN: ARKHAM SHADOW IS GETTING BUNDLED
Developer Camouflaj, the makers of the superb Marvel’s Iron Man VR, has been doing the rounds promoting their next game, Batman: Arkham Shadow, which launches in just a few weeks. Most recently, members from the team appeared on Kinda Funny Games where they demoed the title while speaking to host Greg Miller.

Arkham Shadow‘s biggest barrier to entry is its exclusivity to the Meta Quest 3 VR headset. While the device allowed Camouflaj to effectively translate the works of Rocksteady Studios and WB Games Montreal to VR, price sensitive consumers may not be able to afford a new device. Afterall, if they bought a Quest 2 for Marvel’s Iron Man VR not 2 years ago, it’s a tough sell to spend several hundred dollars on a new machine, especially when there’s no recycling or buy back program from either Meta or retailers for consumers.
Perhaps recognizing this, Meta has produced some holiday bundles that include Batman: Arkham Shadow. The low end Meta Quest 3 with 128GB of space and the game will retail, in Canada, for $579.99. A new model, the Meta Quest 3S, with the same storage space will retail for $399.99. The major difference between the 2 units is the 3S will not include pancake lenses like the Quest 3.
Batman: Arkham Shadow presently doesn’t have a price on the Meta Quest store, but presumably it will range between $39-$49 in Canada. If you’re on a budget and can accept a few compromises, a game and a Quest 3S at $399.99 isn’t too bad a deal, however it’s still a lot of money at a time when every dollar counts. Regardless, we’re hoping that Quest 3 owners take to Arkham Shadow and that it sells well enough to keep a studio like Camouflaj making more games, licensed or otherwise.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is available October 22nd, 2024 as a Meta Quest 3 exclusive.
