Batman arrives at a murder scene where the victim had his heart removed, leaving behind an orphaned son. The scene triggers memories of Batman’s and Dick Grayson’s parents’ murders. Batman then calls for Nightwing’s help in the investigation. The duo visits GCPD Headquarters, where Nightwing speaks to the victim’s son, Iko Wahid, who describes the murder as silent. Upon examining the victim’s body, they notice differences in the wound, leading them to suspect a copycat. Iko, now under his uncle’s care, becomes a target as Nightwing and Batman delve deeper into the case.
The backup story by Michael Conrad and Francesco Francavilla takes us to 14th-Century Normandy, where the Son of Gray seeks vengeance for his family’s murder.

The return to the Heartless storyline in Nightwing #111 brings back the engaging narrative that had been sidelined. While the issue had sentimental moments, they felt slightly overdone, detracting from the overall tone. The issue also raised questions about character dynamics and identity revelations that may pose challenges to the established Batman/Gotham status quo.
The backup story, though brief, hints at future developments in the Fall of Grayson arc starting in Nightwing #114.

Final Thoughts
We are officially beginning the end of the Taylor era of this character, and though I’ve been growing increasingly cooler on it, I’m still very much excited to see how things wrap up.
