Is Spider-Boy the future of the Spider-Verse? Judging by the uptick in Spider-Man #7 sales, there’s plenty of collectors banking on just that.
Between the MCU and Sony’s hit animated movies, the Spider-Verse is arguably the hottest thing in the land of comics and their film adaptations. With that popularity, the Spider-Verse is ever expanding with new characters being added to the mix practically by the month. Fans love the zany takes on Spider-Man, and it makes for great sales numbers.
Last year, Marvel Comics introduced a wild sidekick to the pantheon, Spider-Boy. His origin tells the story of Bailey Briggs whom Madame Monstrosity crossed with a spider. That gives him more animalistic tendencies than Peter Parker, which makes for plenty of comedy. What’s a bit more interesting is that he is from a lost timeline in which he had several adventures with Peter and Miles, though no one remembers the events besides Bailey.
With the Spider-Verse going full throttle on the big screen and a new Spider-Man cartoon series on the horizon, there’s multiple openings to bring Bailey to television and film. Marvel has been all-in with the new character, and he’s already had his own solo title. It’s enough to have collectors stockpiling his first appearance in Spider-Man #7.
The easiest version to find is the standard edition, which has a 90-day average of $103 for a 9.8. For most of last year, the Top Secret variant with Spider-Boy’s first cover appearance had been the bigger seller. Graded at a 9.8, it had been earning $105 for the past 12 months. However, the fair market value has dipped to $86 for the past three months, making this an excellent time to invest. In fact, the latest sale was for $76.
With prices still affordable, this is the best time to jump on the bandwagon. Considering Sony has introduced so many Spider-Verse characters already, it’s very likely that Spider-Boy will at least get a cameo in Beyond the Spider-Verse. When that happens, it’s inevitable that Spider-Man #7 will spike.
