One MCU Star Says His Time in the Franchise Has Come To an End

After portraying Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for eight years, Michael Douglas believes his time in the franchise has ended.

For those who may not remember, Douglas originated the role of Hank Pym in 2015’s Ant-Man. A former S.H.I.E.L.D. employee, superhero, and genius inventor, Hank Pym discovered the Pym Particle and invented the Ant-Man suit, which Scott Lang eventually stole.

Eventually, Douglas would reprise his role as Pym in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Endgame, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Subsequently, however, the actor has taken a break from acting.

Douglas Says He Is Done Playing Hank Pym

In a recent interview with Deadline, Douglas was asked about his future in the MCU. While admitting that he enjoyed the experience of being in the franchise, Douglas essentially said his time had come to an end.

“I don’t think so,” Douglas said when asked if he would return to the MCU. “I had the experience, and I was excited to do it. I’d never done a green screen picture before. I did the The Kominsky Method because I wanted to work with Chuck Lorre and try some comedy. But I’m enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.”

The End?

Even if Douglas was not largely retired from acting, it is hard to see a natural fit for Hank Pym to return to the MCU.

With the future of the Ant-Man franchise uncertain at best, the most likely place to see Hank again would be the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. As Douglas was not among the names listed during the film’s cast reveal, his inclusion now seems unlikely.

It should be noted, however, that Douglas has previously said he would return if Hank Pym were killed off. Perhaps, Marvel will find a way to give Pym a proper sendoff while raising the stakes in the upcoming multiversal adventure.
