One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is collaborating on a new spin-off focusing on the women from the popular adventure manga/anime. The spin-off, titled One Piece: Heroines, will consist of prose short stories with illustrations, and was announced by publisher Viz Media via social media.
Although Oda is credited as the “creator” of One Piece: Heroines, the actual writing will be done by Jun Esaka, with art by Sayaka Suwa. It is not entirely clear how Oda is involved, but his name is prominently featured on Heroines, suggesting that he will play a role in the creative process. Fans can be reassured that the original creator of One Piece is overseeing the spin-off in some capacity.
Viz Media’s announcement of One Piece: Heroines states, “Follow Nami, Robin, Vivi and Perona as the heroines of One Piece embark on their own adventures in this collection of prose short stories! One Piece: Heroines, written by Jun Esaka, created by Eiichiro Oda, and illustrated by Sayaka Suwa, will be released in Spring 2025.”
One Piece follows the story of Luffy D. Monkey and his journey to become the Pirate King. The immensely popular manga/anime/live action series (along with video games, toys, and more) is a global phenomenon. As Oda plans the series’ conclusion, fans eagerly await the reveal of the mysterious “One Piece” that the title refers to.
While details are scarce, there is still time before One Piece: Heroines premieres in spring 2025.
This latest development in One Piece perfectly captures the essence of the series and aligns with Oda’s long-term vision.
