Every year since Pokémon GO launched in 2016, Niantic has organized a New Year’s Event where trainers can catch special creatures to celebrate the end of the year. In 2024, the event promises to be especially exciting. Throughout the year, Niantic holds various events in Pokémon GO, whether it’s to celebrate holidays, Fashion Week, or monthly Community Days where trainers can catch rare creatures. These events help keep Pokémon GO relevant in today’s gaming landscape.
For New Year’s Day 2024, Niantic has once again opened the floodgates to the New Year’s Event. Trainers can gather in large numbers during the first few days of the year to catch specially dressed Pokémon and even rare Shiny Variants. Niantic has revealed the details of this massive Pokémon GO event before the New Year. Fans can check out the event flyer below.
The Pokémon GO New Year’s Event 2024 features several bonuses that will be active during the event. Pokémon placed in incubators during the event will only require half the usual hatch distance. Additionally, the first three Eggs hatched during the event using the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget will only require a quarter of the usual hatch distance (note that these bonuses do not stack).
A new Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff will be making their debut during the event, complete with a ribbon accessory. Trainers will have a chance to encounter the Shiny Variant of both Pokémon if they’re lucky. Raids during the event will feature unique outfits for one-star Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Hoot-Hoot, and Wurmple. These outfitted Pokémon can also be found in Shiny forms. Three-star raids will offer more outfits for the New Year, including Wobbuffet, Gengar, Nidorino, and Raticate wearing formal New Year hats. For the more challenging raids, Mega Ampharos, which can also be Shiny, will be available, and Ultra Beasts will invade different Global regions. Buzzwole will appear in the Americas and Greenland, Xurkitree in Asia, and Pheromosa in the Middle East, Africa, and India.
During the event, 7km eggs will contain special creatures with a chance to be Shiny. These include Pichu wearing a party hat, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Azurill, and Wynaut. In the item shop, trainers can find a new Darumaka hat for purchase, which will remain available after the event ends. Darumaka, Hoot-Hoot, and Jigglypuff wearing the new ribbon can also be found in the wild, with a chance to encounter them as Shiny Pokémon.
The Pokémon GO New Year’s Event for 2024 starts on January 1 and ends on January 3, so trainers will need to be vigilant to catch rare creatures during this short event. For more information, fans can visit the official Niantic website.
