Horror is currently experiencing a surge in popularity, but there’s always the opportunity to revisit a classic and give it a modern twist, right?
A remake of the 1981 supernatural horror film “Possession,” directed by Andrzej Żuławski, is in the works with Parker Finn, known for “Smile,” at the helm and Robert Pattinson taking on producing duties.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s uncertain at this time whether Pattinson will also star in the film or strictly remain behind the scenes, with further details to be revealed as the project progresses.
Several major distributors, including A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros., are reportedly interested in acquiring the rights to the remake.
The original “Possession” featured Sam Neill as a spy caught off guard by his wife’s sudden request for a divorce, leading to a series of bizarre events involving doppelgangers, lovers, and terrifying creatures.
While the release date for the remake is still unknown, Finn is currently focused on the upcoming release of “Smile 2,” which recently teased a change in tone with footage shown at CinemaCon, hinting at events unfolding at a pop concert.
Meanwhile, Pattinson is set to star in Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi film “Mickey 17,” where he plays multiple copies of Mickey Barnes, an employee embarking on a mission to the planet Nifelheim. He is also gearing up to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in “The Batman 2,” directed by Matt Reeves and scheduled for release on October 2, 2026.
Stay tuned for more updates and be sure to check out the upcoming horror movies that are on their way to thrill audiences soon.
