An RPG from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era has made a surprise comeback.
A game that was originally released in 2010, during the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation, has unexpectedly resurfaced this week with a new release. The year 2010 was a memorable one for gamers, featuring popular titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and many more. It was also a significant year for Obsidian Entertainment.
In 2021, Obsidian Entertainment released Fallout: New Vegas, considered one of its best works, and also managed to launch another RPG within the same year. This second game, however, called Alpha Protocol, is not as well-received, but has gained a cult following over time.
Alpha Protocol has been difficult to play in recent years, as it is not available on platforms like Steam and is not compatible with modern consoles. However, it has now been re-released on GOG, a digital PC storefront, making it more accessible to players for $19.99 (or $17.99 until April 3 with a discount).
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Sega, Alpha Protocol is a unique RPG with Metacritic scores ranging from 63 to 72. Despite its initial reception, the game has maintained a dedicated fan base.
The game’s official description reads: “Loyalty carries a price and no one knows this more than agent Michael Thorton. A talented young agent cast out by his government, Thorton holds crucial information to prevent an international catastrophe. Players’ choices in the game will shape Thorton’s path and determine the fate of the world.”
