Reports suggest that the PS5 Pro will be released later this year.
According to the latest reports, PlayStation is expected to launch the new PS5 Pro during the Holiday 2024 season. These reports also provide detailed information about the specifications of the upcoming PlayStation console, stating that developers have already been using dev kits for several months. While PlayStation has not confirmed any details about the release window, specs, or the existence of the PS5 Pro, the rumored release would be approximately four years after the base PS5 was released.
Leaked details about the PS5 Pro were first shared by the YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead, which included documentation showcasing the console’s performance and features. These leaks have been circulating for some time, but after Insider Gaming corroborated the reports, it added more credibility. Insider Gaming mentioned that third-party developers received information about the PS5 Pro through a PlayStation developer portal, possibly explaining the recent leak.
It is reported that first-party PlayStation developers received PS5 Pro dev kits in September 2023, while third-party developers obtained them in January 2024. Some highlights from the leaked PS5 Pro specs include a 45% faster rendering speed than the base PS5, 33.5 teraflops, and 2-3x raytracing support. The console is also said to feature a PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling feature, an AI accelerator, and upcoming SDK versions may support resolutions up to 8K.
While PlayStation has not officially confirmed the existence of a PS5 Pro, considering the release of the PS4 Pro in the last generation and the current phase of the PS5’s lifespan, it is plausible that a PS5 Pro could be released soon. The announcement and release of the PS5 were delayed until Summer and September 2020, respectively, providing a rough timeline for when more information about the rumored PS5 Pro may be revealed.
In addition to PlayStation’s rumored plans for the PS5 Pro, Xbox is also reportedly preparing for a console refresh, possibly in 2026. However, the speculation surrounding the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 or its equivalent has generated even more excitement among fans. While details from Nintendo remain scarce, the anticipation for a new Nintendo Switch console continues to grow, with some suggesting that certain game ports are being withheld in anticipation of the new hardware.
