I am running out of space and money for large 1/4 scale statues. However, I am always on the lookout for new characters to add to my collection, as well as unique interpretations of characters I already have. Luckily, Sideshow has released two new figures this month that caught my attention. The first is a 1/4 scale Spider-Man Premium Format Figure, and the second is the first-ever 1/4 scale Dazzler Premium Format Figure. Despite their high price tags, I am curious to see if they are worth considering.
The X-Men franchise is one that still manages to make me pull out my credit card and spend a significant amount of money. This year, Sideshow Collectibles is releasing a variety of X-Men characters, including Storm, Jean Grey, and Psylocke. However, they are also introducing a character that hasn’t had a resin statue since the days of Bowen Designs and has never had a 1/4 scale statue before – Dazzler! Dazzler, also known as Alison Blaire, is a fan-favorite character with the ability to turn sound into light. She is known for her roller skating skills and connection to disco. The Sideshow Dazzler statue is incredibly impressive, with a bold and vibrant design that perfectly represents the character. It features a pearlescent bodysuit, roller skates, bright blue makeup, and a metallic disco ball base. I absolutely love this piece, although the price of $735 is quite steep. Thankfully, Sideshow offers extended payment plans to help alleviate the cost.
Now, let’s discuss the 2024 Spider-Man Premium Format Figure. While Spider-Man is a less daring character choice compared to Dazzler, Sideshow has taken an interesting approach with this statue by incorporating the Sinister Six as apparitions sensed by Peter’s Spider-Sense. Although I initially found this design to be bizarre, it has grown on me over time. The statue stands at 20″ tall and 15″ wide/deep, making it imposing without being overwhelming. I particularly love the expressive big eyes and crouched pose of Spider-Man, although the unorthodox villains aspect gives me pause. Some fans have also pointed out that the statue’s buttocks look abnormal for a Spider-Man figure. Personally, I would not display the statue in that orientation, but it may vary based on individual taste. Surprisingly, the price of $740 for this 1/4 scale statue is only slightly higher than the Dazzler Premium Format Figure. I expected it to be much more expensive.
Both the new Sideshow Dazzler and Spider-Man Premium Format Figures are available for pre-order now and are set to be released later this year. I am definitely getting the Dazzler statue for my collection. Are any of you also willing to spend a significant amount of money on one of this year’s Marvel statues?
