A multiplayer game inspired by Squid Game will be released alongside Season 2 of the series.
Netflix, like many other media companies, has recently ventured into the gaming industry. They have not only adapted popular gaming franchises into films and streaming series but have also developed games based on their own intellectual properties. One of their upcoming games is capitalizing on the success of Squid Game by offering a multiplayer experience. According to Netflix’s latest shareholder letter, fans can expect the game to be released this year in conjunction with Season 2 of the show.
“We’re three years into our games initiative. During this time, we’ve observed the popularity of existing games like Grand Theft Auto on Netflix, even in the early stages. We’ve also noticed the appeal of games based on Netflix IPs, especially when released alongside a series or film,” the letter states. “In September 2023, we introduced Netflix Stories, a growing collection of interactive fiction games based on popular Netflix shows and movies, starting with Love is Blind. In Q2, we added titles like Virgin River and Perfect Match. Beginning in July, we will release approximately one new title per month, including games based on Emily in Paris and Selling Sunset. Additionally, we will debut a multiplayer game set in the Squid Game universe later this year, coinciding with the launch of the second season of our most popular TV series.”
While Netflix has not specified an exact release date for Squid Game Season 2, it is expected to be sometime in 2024. Therefore, the release date for the multiplayer game remains unknown as well. With August approaching quickly, fans of the series and those eagerly anticipating the multiplayer Squid Game experience can anticipate more details and release dates to be announced soon. The only confirmed information about the game is that it will be multiplayer, allowing players to immerse themselves in the intense world of the franchise in a new and personal way.
Netflix’s expansion into the gaming industry aligns with their goal, as stated in the shareholder letter, to “invest in and expand our entertainment offerings, enhance our reach, recommendations, and fan base, and maintain strong revenue and profit growth as a business.”
