Batman: Arkham Shadow was unveiled at the beginning of last month, continuing the popular Arkham series of Batman games that originated with Batman: Arkham Asylum developed by Rocksteady Studios. With almost 15 years of history, the Arkham series has seen contributions from various creators, and the latest installment is coming from Camouflaj, the developer behind Marvel’s Iron Man VR, exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 VR device.
The debut story trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow was recently released during the 2-hour Summer Game Fest presentation. While gameplay details will be revealed at Gamescom, the trailer offers some insights into what to expect from the game.
Set to an impressive rendition of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, the trailer hints that the game is set in the pre-Asylum era of the series. Roger Craig Smith reprises his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne, hinting at a storyline where Batman battles the city’s pervasive fear instigated by the main antagonist, The Rat King. Other familiar characters like Jim Gordon, Harley Quinn, and Harvey Dent also make appearances, with the latter two still on the brink of turning to the dark side.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is scheduled for release in late 2024 as an exclusive title for the Meta Quest 3 VR platform.
